An Indiana drug and alcohol intervention is a controlled interaction between family members and close friends and their addicted loved one. A number of families choose to work with a professional interventionist, meets with the participants in advance and provides guidance on the day of the intervention.  Because we are located in Indiana, we can be available within minutes of any crisis.

Family Must Remain Calm During Intervention

In many cases, the family members and friends who participate in the intervention have felt that they have been wronged in some way by the addict in their life. It can be difficult to hold back from expressing anger and frustration during the intervention; however, this is a time to tell the addicted person that he or she is loved. The interventionist can help the family members to deal with their feelings and keep the discussion on track.

What to Write in a Drug and Alcohol Intervention Letter

As part of the process of preparing for an intervention, family members and friends write a letter to the addict. They should plan out carefully what they would like to say to their loved one, such as:

  • The types of changes they have noticed in the addict’s personality since they started drinking or using
  • How the addict’s drug or alcohol use has affected his or her self-control and reliability
  • The impact the addict’s behavior has had on their relationship, including how the family member or friend has been wronged
  • The dreams and goals the family member or friend has for the addict once they are able to achieve sobriety
  • A firm statement that the addict is loved unconditionally but that
the family member or friend will no longer support the addiction.

Each person shares what they will do if the addict refuses to go to treatment. This has to be something they are prepared to follow through with, otherwise, it won’t be effective. The addict needs to understand that the family is not going to provide money for bills or rent, a vehicle to go buy drugs or alcohol or make excuses for his or her conduct anymore.

Final Step in Preparing for an Intervention

The final step in preparing for an Indiana drug and alcohol intervention is to have a bed available at a treatment facility so your addicted loved one can leave immediately. Have a bag ready and make travel arrangements so that there is no undue delay in getting to the facility.

Finding Treatment in Indiana

Drug rehab centers have a stigma surrounding them that can cause some addicts to view them as jails. Drug rehabs, in fact, offer the option of leaving and allow patients to continue on with their lives outside of help. But it takes commitment and strength to complete rehabilitation, which can be intimidating to some patients. It’s important to remember you’re not alone, so understand what you can do to save your life, as well as your loved ones because drug addiction affects not only the victim but everyone around them.

Understanding Drug Addiction

Drug addiction is a disease characterized by actively seeking out or constantly thinking about drugs. It can be easy to satisfy those urges at first, but the more drugs that are taken, the less dopamine is being released by the brain. This means that you would require more and more drugs, sometimes something much stronger and deadly, just to satisfy your pleasure levels. This is what leads to harder and more dangerous gateway drugs, which can take its toll on not only your life but the lives around you.

Treatment Options

Indiana drug rehabs offer a wide range of treatment options for locals who wish to stay close to home. You can choose between a group or individual counseling sessions, as well as gender-specific options or age-specific options. Counselors see you as human beings and have an understanding of what drug addiction can do to another life.

Work with counselors to recognize trigger warnings in your drug urges. It’s important to note how certain words or pictures can inspire such urges, which is why counselors work with you to come up with coping methods to reduce your chances of taking drugs again.

A Hard Reality

It’s no secret that the state of Indiana has had drug and substance abuse problems for many years now. The Indiana Department of Homeland Security has put out a warning to increase knowledge of a powerful drug cocktail known as ‘the grey death.’ A mix of heroin, carfentanil, and fentanyl which has been linked to at least one fatal overdose a year.

In 2016, The National Institue of Drug abuse reported 794 deaths were opioid-related in Indiana. A rate which has seen constantly increase ever since that stat. That’s why Indiana Drug Rehabs exist, to take care of their own. You should never be afraid to seek any amount of help or guidance if you are currently struggling. Check in with your local rehab center and pick up their pamphlets or any other time of reading located on their website.

Why Choose Intervention Services and Coaching for Drug or Alcohol Interventions?

We commonly see that when someone is seeking an interventionist, they will most likely limit their choices to therapists within their state. Even though hiring a therapist may seem like the right choice at first, they may not be the right choice in hosting an intervention. As a company founded by a family who has struggled with substance abuse, we know what it is like to have a major rift within the household that comes from drugs and alcohol. We have taken our experiences, turned them into our passion, and created Intervention Services in order to
help families just like yours every day.
