Former Disney star looks to the future after rehab for cocaine addiction

Drug addiction is an all-consuming disease, and many who fall victim to this dependency have testified that it never truly loses its hold. Even with the support of family and friends, and the guidance of professional interventionists, overcoming a habit is undoubtedly one of the most physically and emotionally trying tasks an individual can face.

That’s why it is so inspiring for recovering addicts and their loved ones to see public examples of men and women who have not only owned up to their addiction, but seemingly triumphed over it. Such has been the case with Zac Efron, the former Disney star who entered rehab five months ago because of his cocaine habit.

Prior to going into rehab, Efron confessed that he had been swept up in the endless partying so many of us associate with young Hollywood. Now, Efron has made his first public statement of sorts since completing his treatment.

“Just returned from an incredible trip to Peru with my dad and wanted to thank you all for your support these past few weeks,” the star wrote on his Instagram page, according to PEOPLE magazine.

Drug addiction is an ordeal in and of itself, but Efron’s willingness to discuss his addiction and seek the help he needed under the ever-watchful eye of the media is truly an inspirational act.
