Demi Lovato Highlights Bipolar Disorder and Puts the Misconceptions To Rest

Demi Lovato, who has been in the spotlight since she was a child has been in the news for various issues. Demi who was a childhood Disney star seemed to be following the role of acting out, like many of her peers from the network. There were rumors of suicide, harming herself, developing an eating disorder, and many more things. Demi Lovato highlights bipolar disorder in her recent public events and interviews, because this is what Demi is suffering with.

Demi Lovato highlights bipolar disorder by explaining, “Bipolar Disorder is not just something where you’re just all over the place with your emotions.” Demi continues explaining, “It’s actually a chemical imbalance in your brain and it’s an illness.” Demi Lovato has had her highs and low and is now able to confront her disorder and deal with it properly. Demi is a platinum-selling recording artist, songwriter, actress, and former Disney star that is using her fame to talk publicly about bipolar disorder awareness.

Demi Lovato highlights bipolar disorder by giving examples of what people think it is like, “Oh my gosh, I’m so bipolar, I can’t decide what to eat tonight.” The reality is that that is NOT suffering from bipolar disorder. Demi explains experiencing the extreme symptoms of dealing with bipolar disorder by stating, “I went through weeks at a time of being severely depressed and weeks at a time of being super on top of the world, living in mania.”

Demi reports that she is now receiving treatment and support for her disorder and wants others to know it is perfectly acceptable to have this disorder and manage it properly. She does not want people to hide in shame. She reached out for help and is now in a much better place, by living a healthier lifestyle.
Demi explains a healthy meal plan is key for getting the disorder manageable. She explains, “I have somebody who cooks my meals for me, I eat them on a schedule.” She also makes sure to maintain a regular exercise routine. This helps to help you healthy physically and mentally. Believe it or not exercising releases “feel good” endorphins to your body, putting you in a better mood.

She also explains that her busy schedule does present a struggle at times with keeping up with certain things. Demi explains, “I go to support groups for addiction, and being able to maintain those support groups and the regularity with those is very difficult when you’re traveling so much.” Demi continues, “But I just make sure I reach out to people.”

Reaching out is the message Demi wants to highlight. Demi is part of mental health campaign, “Be Vocal: Speak Up for Mental Health”. This campaign is a partnership of five mental health organizations looking to raise awareness and let people get the help they need, instead of suffering in silence. Demi Lovato highlights bipolar disorder by stating, “Hopefully, our generation will be able to change the way that [people] think about mental illness at an early age.”
