Singer-songwriter from Staten Island shares his battle with drug abuse through music

In an interview with the Staten Island Advance, a New York regional newspaper, hip-hop artist Rob Stroh sat down and talked about the impact of substance abuse in his life. Stroh has a long history with prescription pill abuse, something he said led to to death of nearly a dozen of his former friends. He told the source that it’s only through his music that he is able to overtake his problems and express himself.

He recently penned a new song called “Where You At,” which emphasizes the pill abuse issue ravaging Staten Island and how people need to be more aware of these life-threatening dangers. A graduate from Tottenville High School, Stroh has seen first-hand how this powerful form of addiction can destroy lives.

“These drugs are an epidemic right now,” he said. “They are being sold on the street like crazy. When I was a freshman in high school, I was introduced to them….I know personally over 10 people in their 20s or younger from Staten Island who have died from these drugs.”

He went on to say that he hopes his song prevents people from experiencing the severe side effects of chronic drug abuse. These include severe economic stress, jail time or even death. Additionally, he said that he wants local activism surrounding prescription pill addiction to increase.

Stroh’s story is just one tale of success about someone who was able to pull themselves back from the brink of disaster. However, some folks need a helping hand from their loved ones when trying to conquer their addictions.
