When deciding whether or not LA AA is right for you there are some questions to ask yourself. First of all, is your drinking causing problems at home or work? Perhaps you have missed work due to a hangover. Or had altercation at a family function due to being drunk. If these things have occurred more than once over the past year it is time to seek help. Also, have you tried to stop drinking and not been able to? Maybe you tried to stop for a week but were only able to stop for a couple days. Maybe you tell yourself you will only have one or two but end up having triple that amount. People
who are dependent on alcohol often think that they can stop any time that they want to, but that is not the case. Finally there may be physical symptoms present. Do you “blackout” after drinking, meaning not being able to remember hours or even days after drinking? This is a pretty sure sign of alcohol dependency. Another physical symptom is needing a drink to stop shaking. If you are experiencing this it is a good idea to get help as soon as possible.

Once you have realized

You will be able to share your stories and hear stories from others who have faced the same problems as you. You will be able to address your problems and begin to overcome them in a safe and non-judgemental environment. You will go through steps to learn accountability and control, and eventually regain the life you thought you lost. During your time in Alcoholics anonymous you will learn to take things one day at a time, and that is is possible to stop drinking.

Alcohol addiction can seem shameful and hopeless, but there is no disgrace in admitting that you need help. It is important to remember that you are not alone in your struggle.
